In Rother District, several town councils serve distinct communities. These local bodies provide a more visible, immediate presence in town life and have statutory powers similar to parish councils but often greater resources and higher public awareness.
Two principal town councils in Rother are:
Battle Town Council – 13 councillor seats
Bexhill-on-Sea Town Council – 18 councillor seats
Town Councillors
We are just getting started, but we already have a foothold. Reform UK has one elected town councillor in Battle, and several other councillors who were elected as independents, but are now proud members of Reform. Find out about more your current [Councillors].
What Town Councils Do
Town councils operate at the local, grassroots level. Among their responsibilities are:
- Managing community assets such as parks, town halls, allotments, and local open spaces.
- Running community events, markets, and festivals.
- Providing grants or small funding for local groups and projects.
- Liaising with district and county councils on local infrastructure, planning input, and community needs.
- Acting as a first point of contact for residents on neighbourhood issues.
Because town councillors are often local and visible, they offer a more direct route for residents to influence how their immediate town is governed.
Why Town Councils Matter to Reform UK
We believe that party policies don’t stop at the town hall or village hall. Reform UK wants our values – common sense, accountability, transparency, to run right through every level of government.
Often, town councils are thought of as apolitical, but in practice many councillors are affiliated with national parties, most notably in Rother, the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives. Voters deserve honesty and consistency at every level.
By engaging in town councils, Reform can deliver visible results in residents’ daily lives, build trust locally, and serve as stepping stones for higher office.
We intend, as opportunities arise, to stand principled Reform candidates in Battle, and Bexhill.
